: Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham sought former Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao’s support for his agitation for reservation to the community.
In a meeting with Mr. Rao at the latter’s residence in Hyderabad on Monday, Mr. Padmanabham said he was striving to get the promises made to Kapus fulfilled and needed the blessings of senior leaders like him to get the desired outcome.
Mr. Rao promised to contribute to the fight for Kapu reservation.
Speaking to the media earlier, Mr. Padmanabham recalled that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had promised to announce reservation for Kapus within six months of his victory but did nothing except constituting the Kapu Commission to work out the modalities.
Mr. Padmanabham’s meeting with Mr. Rao assumes significance in the context of a meeting that the Kapu JAC planned to hold on September 11 to chart its course of action on the Kapu quota and other issues pertaining to their welfare.
Mr. Padmanabham is expected to meet some other leaders of the community in Hyderabad on Tuesday to garner support for his agitation. The protests at Tuni catapulted the quota issue to the political centre stage.
