DEHRADUN: Pramod Patni of Pithoragarh was declared winner in the seventh edition of the 21-km (men’s open category) Namah Nainital Monsoon Mountain Marathon competition in Nainital yesterday.

Pramod Patni of Pithoragarh was declared winner in the seventh edition of the 21-km (men’s open category) Namah Nainital Monsoon Mountain Marathon competition in Nainital yesterday. Puran Singh Dhami stood second and the third position went to Chandan Digari. In the Nainital Open Category, Dinesh Bisht came first, Vinay Kumar stood second and Rahul Adhikari bagged third position.

The race started from Mallital Pant Park. It was flagged by Bollywood actor Hemant Pandey. The man open category of 21-km witnessed more than 150 participants. There was heavy participation in 10 km women category, junior senior boys and girls category and veterans. The winners were awarded prize money of more than Rs 2.5 lakh. A Run for Fun for children was also organised.

In women category, Arpita Saini came first, Ruby Kashyap and Parvati bagged the second and third position, respectively. In veteren category, the first three spots went to Jagdish Ram, Stephen and Ravindra Rajput.

In senior boys’ category, Deepak Singh, Saurabh Badhani and Pawan Kathiya stood first, second and third. In the girls’ category, Gunjan Sanwal clinched the first rank, followed by Priyanka Budhlakoti and Banu Priya Bisht for second and third position, respectively.

In junior boys’ category, Aman Kumar, Ajay Pratap and Vijay Singh outshone other participants. In junior female category, the first three ranks went to Mahi Rawat, Charu and Udita Rawat.

Nainital DM Deepak Rawat, UTDB deputy director Poonam Chand, Nainital MLA Sarita Arya, LIC senior divisional manager PS Negi, LIC zonal manager (retd) Ashok Shah and Bollywood actor Hemant Pandey were present.

The winners of the men’s open category were given Rs 50,000 (first), Rs 25,000 (second) and Rs 15,000 (third). The total prize money distributed was Rs 2,67,000.

Namah, a premium luxury brand of DS Hospitality, sponsored the event this year. The Uttrakhand Tourism Department was the co-sponsor. The theme of the marathon was to promote Uttarakhand tourism during monsoons.
