The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) finally dropped its trademark uniform or ‘ganvesh’ and started the sale of their new uniform in the form of full khakhi trousers in its Nagpur Headquarters. The right-wing group had earlier announced the introduction of brown coloured pants as its uniform instead of the knickers. The RSS workers are seen marching every year in the Vijayadashami rallies in half-pants and white shirts. According to a decision taken in the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), the new trousers will make way for the decades-old loose-fitting shorts while the rest of the uniform will remain the same.

The uniform change had been conveyed to all RSS leaders for several months now. According to an The Indian Express report in 2015, the prant pracharaks had considered a new uniform during a meeting in Ranchi and the leaders had informed that all RSS members should be ready for a new uniform. RSS counsel B Rabu Manohar had earlier said that the charge under Section 188 which states violation of orders of a public servant were not made out.

The last uniform change in RSS happened in 2010 when the canvas belt was replaced by a leather belt, however the change is yet to be implemented as many swayamsevaks still wear leather belts.
