Car fraud: High profile cheat arrested in Delhi's Mahipalpur area

Accused Sanjeev Behel from Delhi's Mahipalpur area used to cheat people on the pretext of providing diplomatic cars at throwaway prices.

A high profile cheat, involved in cheating crores of rupees, has been arrested by the Delhi Police today.

The police team managed to arrest one Sanjeev Behel from Mahipalpur area and recovered Rs 1.23 lakh from him. Sanjeev Behel used to cheat people on the pretext of providing diplomatic cars at throwaway prices.

On the basis of a complaint filed by Nitin Berry, a resident of Dehradun, the cops arrested the accused.

CAR FRAUD

Sanjeev had introduced himself to Nitin as the sole exporter of diplomatic cars from the embassies and from auto expos. Sanjeev had told the complainant and his three friends that he has a diplomatic car pool and he can help him buy new cars, SUVs at 20-30 per cent discount from the German embassy in New Delhi.

The accused promised to provide one BMW, one Honda City, two XUV 500s, one Ford Eco Sport, one Skoda Octavia and one I-20 car to the complainant and his friends at very cheap prices.

DEMANDED MORE MONEY

After this offer, Sanjeev called the complainant and his friends at his office at Mahipalpur and received token money of Rs 1 lakh and got deposited Rs 24.60 lakh through RTGS in his bank accounts in the year 2014 and 2015. He also mailed them regarding the confirmation of the booking of cars and demanded more money. A few days passed but Sanjeev did not provided them the promised cars. When the complainant and his friends demanded their money back and he gave them post-dated cheques which bounced later. He also started ignoring the phone calls of the complainant.

HOW COPS ARRESTED HIM

During investigation, the police team obtained and verified the bank details of accused Sanjeev. Raids were conducted and close watch was kept at the office of accused in Mahipalpur but he did not turn up. On 26th of August, after getting specific input about the presence of Sanjeev in his office, the police team conducted raids. Sanjeev came outside his office in his car and on seeing the police team accelerated the speed of his car and escaped from the spot. The police team chased his car on the Mehrauli-Mahipalpur Road which later struck in traffic jam and the police team overpowered the cheat.
