U.S. team will wear Ralph Lauren for Ryder Cup

Ralph Lauren will again provide the uniforms for the U.S. team during the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National.

With a color palette of red, white and blue, the uniforms will have several patriotic features. “United We Stand” is printed on the interior waistband of the pants worn in competition. The company says each garment is “engineered with the rigors of professional golf in mind.” It says polo shirts are “ergonomic” and are designed to “accommodate any swing radius.”

Players will be dressed in Ralph Lauren for the opening ceremony and welcome dinner for the Ryder Cup, which will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Chaska, Minn. Caddies and spouses will also wear clothes designed by the company. 

The collection will be available on RalphLauren.com and shop.pga.com. A portion of the proceeds from sales will benefit the PGA of America’s 41 Sections program and PGA Reach.

Ralph Lauren is the official outfitter of the U.S. Ryder Cup team through 2020. The 2014 U.S. team, which was also outfitted by Ralph Lauren, was beaten soundly by Europe at Gleneagles. After the loss, Tom Watson's strategy as team captain was called into question.

Players on Team Europe will also have high-end, designer attire of course. Italian company Loro Piana is the official outfitter (think only the softest cashmere), and team captain Darren Clarke was involved in the process of deciding what his team will wear. Golfweek reports the tuxes players will wear cost around $10,000.

Not to be outdressed, Davis Love III is the captain of the U.S. team and is sponsored by Ralph Lauren. The company sponsors several players, including Watson, Jonathan Byrd, Justin Thomas, Luke Donald, Matteo Manassero and Billy Horschel.
