AHMEDABAD: Two groups clashed at Bilodara village near Nadiad in Kheda district on Sunday. Police officials said that death of a 55-year-old woman angered a mob already involved in violence. Police have mounted a vigil in the village.
Kheda police said a group from the Hari Om Trust had come to the village to measure a piece of land after reports of encroachment.
While entering into argument with the trust officials, members of Bharwad and Thakor communities found themselves in an altercation that escalated into stone-pelting.
"A woman, identified as Kesar Dabhi from the Thakor community, died in the stone-pelting after which clashes intensified," said a police official. "Police teams were sent to the spot to prevent any further casualties. Community elders were also involved in peacekeeping."
Maninder Singh Pawar, the Kheda SP, said that the situation was under control as on Sunday evening.
