Local residents along with tourists lined up along Mall Road to catch a glimpse of Lord Krishna idol’s during a palanquin procession that ferried around the town amid the beating of traditional drums and chants of “Radhey Radhey, Krishna Krishna” here today.

In continuance to the age-old tradition, the Lord Krishna palanquin procession is held on the first Sunday after Janmashtami.

The palanquin procession began from the Sanatan Dharm temple at Landour Bazaar. Local priests offered prayers and decorated the palanquin with silver ornaments. Tableaus depicting the characters from   revered epics   Ramayana and Mahabharata added more colour to the festivities.

Students from Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya walked along the procession. The priest of Radha Krishan temple held prayers as soon as the procession reached Picture Palace.

Municipal Council president Manmohan Singh Mall extended his greetings to the people on the occasion.

Pankaj Agarwal, a local resident said, the Krishna palanquin procession had a historic significance. The first procession was taken out in 1870.
