Two days after the attack, a local trader today feared for his and his family members life. Rupinder Kataria, a resident of Albert Road here alleged that several unidentified persons covered his face and beat him up brutally when he was going for an evening walk at a park in Keneddy Avenue here on Wednesday. The incident was captured in a CCTV camera.

The Civil Lines police has registered a case under Sections 341, 323 and 148 of the Indian Penal Code in this regard.

Arun Sharma, Station House Officer, Civil Lines police station, said they were trying to identify the culprits with the help of CCTV footage, but it was of very poor quality.

He added that the investigation was under progress. The motive behind the incident was also not clear as nothing was robbed from Kataria, added the SHO. He said preliminary investigation pointed towards some enmity.

Kataria said fear had gripped his family and there was a constant threat to his life. He claimed that he had no enmity with anyone. He said he was going to a park inside the Keneddy Avenue when unidentified persons attacked him all of a sudden. They inflicted internal injuries on him. The CCTV footage revealed that around five youths, who were waiting on the road, had received a call just seconds before he was attacked.

“This means that someone has hired them to deliberately hit me,” he said. Kataria urged the police authorities to probe the incident threadbare and arrest the culprits, who were behind the incident.
