THANE/MUMBAI:The
MNS on Saturday said it would meet the legal expenses of
govinda mandals booked for flouting the
Supreme Court guidelines on dahi handi even as the
BJP urged chief minister
Devendra Fadnavis to withdraw the cases of culpable homicide.
Ashish Shelar, BJP’s Mumbai unit chief, said, “I don’t want to comment on cases registered for contempt of court. All rules should be followed. But other serious offences like culpable homicide should be withdrawn.”
He said he has written to the CM poining out that cases have been registered against 29 govinda mandals in Mumbai and 20 in Thane.
As the govindas are young, the cases of serious offences may have an effect on their future and career, Shelar, said.
Meanwhile, MNS chief
Raj Thackeray is scheduled to felicitate the govinda mandals in Thane on Sunday.
MNS Thane unit chief Avinash Jadhav said, “Our intention was never to insult the Supreme Court but only to celebrate a Hindu festival as it has been done for a very long time.”
