SP to kin: No foul play in woman’s death

Superintendent of Police, Sirmaur, Souyma Sambasivan, today visited the family of Babli, a 25-year old women of Shillai constituency whose body was found on August 17 at Sirmauri Tal in Paonta Sahib along with a youth Netar Singh.

Since the family had raised concern at the woman’s death and alleged that she had been murdered along with the youth, the SP herself visited the family to apprise them of the factual situation.

The issue has agitated the locals who had alleged the police was overlooking the murder and rape issue.

While talking to The Tribune, the SP said the post-mortem conducted at the IGMC by senior doctors had confirmed that the woman had died of drowning and there was no evidence of foul play as was being alleged by the locals. She said they were awaiting the report of the DNA as viscera samples had been sent for analysis and if at all something credible emerged in the report they would investigate into it.

She said she had tried to address the concerns of the family on the basis of factual information which has emerged in the case so far and added that she herself was monitoring the investigations.

The locals had alleged foul play in this case. They had been alleging that the youth had been murdered and the woman had been raped before being killed. Since their clothes had been found at some distance from the naked bodies the villagers suspected that it was not a case of drowning.

The SP, while taking strict note of those trying to incite the emotions of the aggrieved families, said she would deal strongly with those trying to fish in troubled waters as no laxity has been adopted by the police in investigating this case.

Political leaders had condemned this statement of the SP and had even said that they would meet the Chief Minister to ensure proper action in this case.

Harshwardhan Chauhan, Chairman, Employment Generation and Resource Mobilisation Committee, in a statement issued here said that the villagers had the right to raise their voice in a peaceful and democratic manner.
