Calangute: The new bridge at Tambudki, Arpora, linking Baga, has been slightly delayed and will now be ready for traffic sometime in October. Work had started on June 11 and the bridge was expected to be ready by mid-September.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by former chief minister, Manohar Parrikar, on June 18, 2014. It is being built by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) at a cost of 4.75 crore.

“While not much work could be done on account of the heavy showers in June and July, it is now on in full swing,” Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo, said, adding that the project was initiated in June, bearing in mind that traffic flow would be lesser. The old bridge at Tambudki, located near Mackie’s Saturday Nite Bazaar, was very narrow and was unable to handle traffic that proceeded to Baga and Anjuna.
The new, single span bridge over the Baga-Arpora creek will be 22m long and 12m wide and will sport a footpath and two lanes for traffic.
Although work on the bridge was initially scheduled to start in March and end before the onset of the monsoon, it was delayed due to ‘technical’ reasons. With work on the new bridge currently under way, traffic proceeding to Baga and Anjuna has been diverted to the new bridge on the Sankwadi-Kudos road.
