Thane: After securing 31st rank at the Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) examination earlier this month, Thane’s Umang Gupta has made the city proud once again by securing the third rank in the All India Company Secretary Examination (CS); the results of which were declared on Thursday.
The 19-year-old genius grew up learning accounts and taxation from his parents who also have a degree in CA, CS and ICWA.
It was double celebration for Umang as the results were announced on his birthday.
“I didn’t expect to get a rank in both my CA and CS exams. These exams are very difficult. As this was my first attempt, I was hoping to pass in all subjects. When I got the CA result, I was over the moon. I tried to bury myself in the birthday celebration on Thursday to get over the anxiety of my CS result. Getting a rank was not expected at all. It was a double celebration for me,” said Umang, a student of R A Podar College.
Umang, whose daily schedule included both studying as well as recreational activities. ‘‘I would study for 8 to 10 hours a day. But I would also take breaks during which I would play a game of chess with my brother or meditate,’’ he said.
Umang has given his parents the credit for his success. ‘‘As both my parents are in the field of accounts and taxation, I would hear them discuss about it. This drew my attention towards the subjects. They taught me that while practicing sums was important, it was even more essential to understand the core concepts and think of every problem analytically. I have always followed guidelines. I f I had a problem, my parents were always there to guide me.’’
A Mumbai-based CA firm has also accepted his application for a three-year articleship. The young lad is now training his eyes on an MBA degree from one of the IIMs.
