ALIGARH: A “Samjhauta Patra” and “Maafi Nama” nipped the repeat of Babri Mandi in the bud at “Mamu Bhanja” locality of Aligarh, where Hindus and Muslims live an economically inter-dependent life. In a small incident that took communal colour was brought under control by the local leaders and cops to avoid repetition of "Babri Mandi"- where some families had alleged "exodus" due to the fear from "another community."
After intervention by community leaders there was a signing of “maafi nama” and “samjhauta patra”.
The incident involved two people working in the same locality, at the time of opening his shop, a shopkeeper, Kapil Varshney had an argument with a local boy Chandu, son of Jamil. The argument resulted in stone pelting and police stepped in to control the situation. Soon, the local political and community leaders intervened to solve the matter. Rekha Varshney, wife of Kapil sent a samjhauta patra, in which she stated that “she is satisfied with maafi nama and has forgiven the boys."
"There is no complaint or case against anyone,” said SO Gandhi Park Sanjeev Dubey.
BJP youth leader Vinay Varshney, who stepped in to solve the situation, said, "During Babri Mandi, the trade of local people was badly affected. There was trust deficit, people did not move out of homes for long and now we cannot afford another such incident. So it was important for responsible people to solve this matter. Hindus have shops in Muslim owned buildings and vice versa, any unnecessary trouble will rupture the ties between people living here. It should be avoided. Both parties agreed to bury the matter, which was being instigated on communal lines."
SP youth leader Amir Abid Ilu said, “It was a small matter and we did not want it to escalate as it happened in earlier cases – in this locality both Hindus and Muslims have been working together for years. When the issue went out of hand we went to the respectable people of the locality and advised them to strike a compromise to avoid communal discord. We made one party sign maafi nama and after there was compromise."
