Saroj Khan to choreograph for Byomkesh Pawrbo

Tollywood has one more reason to gloat. Choreography queen, Saroj Khan, will be choreographing a dance sequence for Arindam Sil���s next, Byomkesh Pawrbo.
The last time Saroj Khan choreographed for a Bengali film was when she was assisting B Sohanlal. It was Uttam Kumar-Mala Sinha starrer Sathi Hara, and the young assistant choreographer had come down to Kolkata to put together a routine for the on-screen couple.However, Uttam Kumar had fever and he could not come to the sets for the routine, making do with close-up shots later. Saroj Khan sounded nostalgic while recounting that incident to us. ���This, however, will be my first outing as a choreographer for a Bengali film,��� she said.
The idea of roping in Saroj Khan for the song sequence was Bickram Ghosh���s. Arindam Sil, the director, tell us, ���It is a very important song for the film. It is a majlish song, with Bhojpuri influences, set in erstwhile Bowbazar. In the 1940s, Bowbazar was one of the most happening places. Umrao Jaan spent her last years here. Ustad Amir Ali Khan used to visit the courts of Bowbazar. The standard was very high. Since our song, which Bickram has composed, is set in such a rich mehfil, we wanted to get it just right. It is also very, very situational. That is when Bickram suggested Sarojji���s name, and of course, I was on cloud nine when she said yes.���
Composed by Bickram Ghosh, the song has lyrics by Sutapa Basu and is sung by Ujjayini. The director informs us that the song will be sent to Saroj Khan, once it is recorded. ���Sarojji asked for the song herself, so she could choreograph an act and send us. She wants to make sure that there are no glitches when we shoot it. That is why, she has asked me to take a look at the act she will send and then suggest any changes that I might want. Can you imagine such a famous choreographer taking so much interest in just one song? She has been asking me a zillion questions about the film, and I am constantly exchanging messages with her. She is so involved. Aami aar changes ki bolbo onake��� This is why she is Saroj Khan,��� added Arindam.
Sayantika, on the other hand, is over the moon at the prospect of being taught by Saroj Khan herself. ���People would tell me that I can dance. Today, when Arindamda has chosen me for this very tough and upbeat song sequence, I finally feel like a dancer. And to imagine that the song will be choreographed by Saroj Khan herself��� I am scared that when I see her, I will go numb and won���t be able to move my limbs!��� exclaimed the actress.
Saroj Khan will be with Sayantika for an entire day to gauge her body-language before getting down to the choreography. ���I cannot just listen to a song and choreograph it. I need to know the situation, the genre of the film, the director���s vision of it. I have watched Sayantika���s dance. I think she is a beautiful dancer and I am looking forward to choreographing her,��� said she.
