MUTA urges MSU to withdraw exam fee hike

August 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:12 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) has appealed to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University administration to withdraw the recently hiked examination fee.

In a statement, S. Subbaraju, general secretary, MUTA, said Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education fixed the semester examination fee at Rs. 65 for undergraduate paper and Rs. 120 for postgraduate paper in 2013. The MSU administration, which did not hike the examination fee then, had now increased it.

While the examination fee of Rs. 53 per undergraduate semester examination paper had been increased to Rs. 90, the university had hiked postgraduate examination fee from Rs. 106 to Rs. 150.

“Even as the MSU’s examination wing has got surplus money, the hike, which will seriously affect the students and their parents, is totally unwarranted and hence it should be withdrawn immediately. If not, MUTA will extend its support to the students agitating against the fee hike,” Dr. Subbaraju warned.
