District Administrative Complex inauguration: Sukhbir Singh Badal’s supporters give tough time to security personnel, create chaos

Some officers and SAD-BJP councillors got stranded in the crowd and one of them fell on a security guard, who in turn fell on some media persons sitting near the entry point, creating a chaos.

Supporters of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal gave a tough time to the security personnel during the inauguration of the District Administrative Complex in Sector 79, Mohali, on Thursday.

The party workers and residents were waiting at the hall to greet the deputy chief minister before the start of the function.

The deputy chief minister, who was scheduled to arrive at the venue at 12 noon, was late by around one-and-a-half hour. When he reached the venue, he met the SAD councillors and then inaugurated the District Administrative Complex.

The SAD-BJP councillors, who were accompanying Sukhbir to the function, found it difficult to enter the hall as they were stopped by the security personnel.

When Sukhbir entered the main hall to address the gathering, his supporters surrounded him and made it difficult for the security guards to handle them.

Some officers and SAD-BJP councillors got stranded in the crowd and one of them fell on a security guard, who in turn fell on some media persons sitting near the entry point, creating a chaos.

The deputy CM took around 10 minutes to finish his speech and conclude the function. He told the workers that he had to attend some function and could not stay longer.

Meanwhile, all the offices were not shifted to the new complex, as the rooms to several departments were not allotted.

An official said the office of deputy commissioner has been shifted to the new complex, while other offices, including that of the senior superintendent of police, will be shifted next week.

The official added that the offices will be shifted only after the allotment of rooms.

The official also said the offices of additional deputy commissioner (General) office, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) office, SSP Office, Sub -Divisional Magistrate, Tehsil Office, District Food and Supply office, Sports Department office, District Transport Office, Election Tehsildar, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry, Finance Officer, District Public Relation Officer, Deputy Economic and Statistics advisor, district Controller of food and supply, District Small Savings, District Horticulture office, Labour Commissioner, Deputy Director Factory, Language Department, District Education Officer, Chief Architect Punjab, Social Security, District Development and Panchayat Officer, District Welfare Officer, Deputy Registrar Cooperation’s and other offices relating to 27 different departments will start functioning from the new complex in the coming few weeks.

Till then, people will have to come to Phase I, the old DAC.
