NOIDA: Given repeated incidents of crimes in various sectors, the RWA federation has written to city magistrate Bachchu Singh on the need to strengthen and implement security measures such as a tab on vacant plots, enrolment of residents with sector RWAs and removal of slum clusters adjacent to residential sectors.
“Further to our meeting with city magistrate Bachchu Singh on August 23 over role and area of operation of RWAs, we have now specifically asked him to implement a number of steps to strengthen security in residential sectors,” A N Dhawan, secretary general, Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations’ (FONRWA), told TOI.

These include a plan in coordination with Noida Authority and the police for removal of all unauthorized slums near residential sectors and the issuance of an administrative order directing all residents (owners and tenants) to enrol themselves as members of the RWAs of their sectors. FONRWA also suggested that the authorities should direct vacant plot owners to keep their RWAs informed when they undertake any construction activity, and that no completion certificate be issued by Noida Authority to any plot owner without the RWA NOC.
The RWA umbrella body also urged the need for boundary walls for sectors adjacent to villages or having open ended access. “A resident recently complained of suspicious movement of some slum dwellers opposite her house. Since she stays alone with her 80-year-old mother and a young maid, she complained to the RWA. We have been complaining for a long time about the slums at all levels - from authority to the police – but no action has been taken on the matter,” said Sanjeev Kumar, Sector 51 RWA general secretary.
“Since the festive season has begun, the influx of a lot of outsiders to residential sectors becomes the norm. Under such circumstances, it’s impossible to keep a tab on all the movement with limited security arrangements at RWA level, especially in large sectors. It is necessary to not only man them with more PCR rounds, but also to have a dedicated boundary to ensure limited access,” said N P Singh, FONRWA president.
