Singer Shahid Mallya, the voice behind popular track “Chitta Ve” in the controversial movie “Udta Punjab”, is back again.
This time, the singer known for his nuanced voice has sung a song that has spiced up the election campaign of the Punjab Congress. The high-pitch track promises hope, peace and prosperity. Soon, its video will be released, said sources.
Composed by music director, Sneha Khanwalkar, and sung by Mallya and Richa Sharma, the track starts with lyrics “Pind pind sheshar sheshar bas eko chale lehar lehar, kushian mud ke aavan giyan ek baar, khetaan vich bhangra paungia”. It prompts listeners to vote for the party with stanzas such as “Kehdo ek bar, chaudan hai Punjab Captain di sarkar”.
The lyrics are punctuated with indirect reference to AAP as “outsiders” and touch upon drug menace, but at the same time promise the moon to voters.
Members of Prashant Kishor’s Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC) released the song recently at “Halke Vich Captain” events in Bathinda and Nawanshahr.
The Congress is not alone in wooing voters through songs. Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas came out with a song “Ek Nasha” that accused the ruling family of selling sand, roads, canal and fields. It went viral on the social media before the SAD came out with its song and video “Lalkar”.
It glorifies state’s history and culture with references to individuals, and accuses AAP of misleading people through false propaganda.
The AAP’s track focuses on drug menace and farmer suicides, while SAD’s song blames the Opposition of defaming Punjab and Punjabis.
As for the Congress’ track, it is centered around Capt Amarinder Singh. No doubt, it will be an integral part of the party’s campaign and rallies.
