How to Make a Vrindavan Cake for Your Little Ones this Janmashtami
And you don't need to be an expert at baking or frosting. You will only need three things!
By Swati Sharan
As far as eastern philosophy goes, we are as we dream. We believe Lord Krishna lives inside our hearts, therefore, we must create our own Vrindavan. As Janmashtami rolls around on August 25 and we try to find ways to entice our kids to celebrate creatively with limited time, here’s how you can create Vrindavan on a cake quickly. Who can say no to a cake, after all? And you don’t need to be an expert at baking or frosting. You will only need three things!
Who can say no to a cake, after all? And you don’t need to be an expert at baking or frosting. You will only need three things!
1. Cake
2. Frosting
3. Cutouts
EGGLESS BANANA CAKE:
Recipe Courtesy: NDTV Food
Note: I chose to make the eggless banana cake from NDTV Food but instead of using regular flour as specified in the recipe, I added a wholesome twist by substituting it with a multi-grain based flour. The good thing about using a cake like this is that its propensity for low sweetness balances the sweetness of the frosting.
CREAMY AVOCADO FROSTING:
To give green touches to your cake for making our little Vrindavan look authentic
Note: Wait for the cake to cool down before applying frosting or the frosting will melt.
Ingredients:
1 ripe avocado
2 cups icing sugar
¼ to half cup milk
Directions:
1. Mash the avocado and stir in icing sugar and gradually pour in the milk.
2. Beat up all ingredients together until it is mixed evenly and a thick texture forms.
3. Now put the icing in the freezer for half an hour and apply on the cooled cake.
4. If you are having issues making it thicker or the batter is too liquidy, add in more sugar until you do find it thicker.
DESIGNING THE CAKE WITH CUTOUTS
Things you will need:
1. Candles or toothpicks
2. Scotch Tape
3. Paper cut outs of Lord Krishna from the internet
Directions:
1. Search for some cartoon images of Krishna on the Internet which you can print and cut out.
2. Tape candles or toothpicks to the back of the cut-outs.
3. Now stand them on the cake.
Voila, there you have it. A little Vrindavan for your little one to enjoy and celebrate the day!
