The Bailiwick's 16 year olds have delivered another good year of GCSE and Level 2 results. Overall 62.1 % of students achieved five or more GCSEs or Level 2 equivalent qualifications including English and Maths at grade C or above. This compares with last year's figure of 57.4% of students achieving the so called 'gold standard'.
'On behalf of the Education Board I would like to congratulate all our young people who have worked so hard to achieve these results today,' said Deputy David de Lisle.
'It is very heartening to note that all the high schools have reached or outperformed expectations based on the students' KS2 results. There continues however, to be a certain amount of volatility with results as the GCSE system goes through a period of change and I think our teachers need to be congratulated for ensuring that their students were well prepared despite significant changes to the exam system'.
'Our results are still provisional and we will be looking in detail at where we have done well and areas where we could improve. As usual we will be publishing confirmed progress and attainment data later in the year.'
Alan Brown, the Director of Education, paid tribute to the hard work and commitment of the students and the dedication of their teachers and support staff across the service.
'Our focus today must be on celebrating the success of our students and recognising the support that they receive from schools and their families in achieving these results. I wish them every success as they move on to the next exciting stage of their lives whether they continue in education/training or move into employment' said Mr. Brown.
Note to Editors: Please ensure when you are referring to results you use the correct terminology for each key performance indicator. The Director of Education and Deputy de Lisle will be available for brief interviews at 1 pm at Grange Road House. Although the results still remain provisional, the Bailiwick and individual school results are as follows (please note that the Bailiwick figures include results from the 3 grant-aided Colleges but Education Services does not report the Colleges' individual results. Bailiwick figures include the whole Year 11 cohort, including those in special schools.
