Company charged with evading import duties totalling RM172,501.20

KLANG: A car importing company, which is based in Sarawak, was charged in the Sessions Court here today with three counts of attempting to evade import duties on three luxury cars totalling RM172,501.20.
The company, Suhusia Shd Bhd, represented by its director, Datuk Othman Suaidi, pleaded not guilty to the charges before judge Darmafikri Abu Adam.
It was charged under the Malaysian Customs Duties Order 2007, with fraudulently evading import duties of RM57,500.40 each on the three Mercedes Benz E250.
All three offences were allegedly committed at the imported car field (CT2) Northport Bhd, North Port, Port Klang, at noon on May 11, 2012.
The charges under Section 135 (1)(g) of the Customs Act 1967, provide a minimum fine of 10 times the amount of duty and a maximum fine of 20 times the amount of duty or up to three years' jail, or both, if convicted.
Darmafikri set bail at RM5,000 for each charges in one surety and set Sept 30 for case mention.
Royal Malaysian Customs deputy public prosecutor Abdul Rasyiddi Ab Drahman appeared for the prosecution while counsel Mohd Hamizi Mohd Yusof and Raziyan Rahim represented the company. — Bernama
