Ten back to back cochlear implant surgeries performed at OCHRI

Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI) conducted ten back to back cochlear implant surgeries for hearing-impaired children in the city. These children can now look forward to this new bionic ear implant which not only allows them to hear but also speak normally. The implant, an electronic device, helps patients pick up auditory signals by stimulating the hearing nerve.

NAGPUR: Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI) conducted ten back to back cochlear implant surgeries for hearing-impaired children in the city. These children can now look forward to this new bionic ear implant which not only allows them to hear but also speak normally. The implant, an electronic device, helps patients pick up auditory signals by stimulating the hearing nerve.
The surgeries were conducted at OCHRI by Dr Milind Kirtane from Mumbai – known for his skills in the specialized surgery.
He was assisted by Dr Nandu Kolwadkar, Dr Sameer Choudhary and DrAjay Deshpande.
It is a dream project of Dr Kolwadkar launched by Udaybhaskar Nair, Ravi Nair Hospitals Private Limited chairman, under the Project Geeta. TATA Trust and Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office also provide grants for this scheme.
The OCHRI family team which helped in conducted the operations comprised Dr Anup Marar, director, administration, Dr Kuldeep Sukhdeve, pediatrician, Dr Neeta Deshpande and Dr Anita Pande, anesthetist, Neelu Somani and Vishal Hiremath, audiologists, Dr Milind Pande, pathologist, Dr Raju Khandelwal, radiologist, Dr Sandeep Kharode, Dr Kavita Dhurve, Dr Priyanka Wankar, Dr Noorul Ameen, Dr Deepak Kore, Dr Deepak Narwade, Dr Umesh Sidam and Dr Milind Gujar.
