CHANDIGARH: It was a day full of stories at Dikshant Global School and Dikshant International School, Zirakpur, with children of primary classes attending storytelling sessions conducted by renowned performance storyteller and theatre practitioner Vikram Sridhar. In both the schools as many as 200 kids participated in the sessions.
The sessions conducted were interactive.
Kids showed their imagination powers in explaining how a ‘Dosa’ or a Pizza is made in a very playful way. A story about kids lost in an Indian Forrest also was quite interesting. The kids were told about different animals & birds that live in a Forrest. Sounds of animals and funny sounds were made to involve the kids. The story also saw kids giving different reactions to situations like being scared, tired etc.
“Vikram has initiated ‘Around the Story Tree’ an endeavour to reach out to children and adults from different backgrounds through oral storytelling, using stories and folktales in a contemporary form. He is the organiser of the children's section of the Bengaluru Poetry Festival and Bangalore Literature Festival. Due to his special skills of performance story telling in relation to kids, we invited him to our campuses for sessions,” Said Mitul Dikshit, Chairman, Dikshant Group of Schools. ?
“I tried to engage the kids during my sessions by telling them interesting stories that kids easily relate with through acting. I also made the little ones enact scenes. In a fun way I tried to ignite their imagination & thinking. I am really happy with the response by students who were really fully involved in the activity,” said Vikram Sridhar.
It is noteworthy that Vikram is the Co-Founder of India’s first Storytelling Society, the Bangalore Storytelling Society, and also of Tahatto, a Bangalore based theatre group. Tahatto performs regularly in Bangalore and in festivals across India. What’s more, he is thold to e founder and Chief Curator of Speaking of Theatre, India's unique theatre confluence.
