Unpaid actor tries to end life after wife sends divorce notice
A 29-year-old actor attempted suicide on Wednesday after his wife sent him a divorce notice. The victim, M Ilavarasan alias Arasu, has acted in films like 'Onaiyum Aatukutiyum', 'Siruthai' and 'Saguni' and some serials. He wrote a suicide note to actor Vishal stating that he was struggling to run his family as several film producers had not paid him.
Ilavarasan was alone at home when he consumed rat poison, police said.
The actor's friend came looking for him at his MKB Nagar house after not getting any response to several phone calls. They found Ilavarasan lying unconscious and rushed him to Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital where he was wheeled into an ICU. His condition is said to be stable.
Ilavarasan has been living with his wife Sasikala and son Shiva at MKB Nagar. Police said his wife reportedly quarrelled with him several times after he failed to secure payments from producers. Following an argument recently, she sent a divorce notice to Ilavarasan driving him to attempt suicide, police said.
Police found a note addressed to Vishal, who is also the secretary of South Indian Film Artiste Association. In the letter, Ilavarasan said he had vainly tried to contact Vishal and convey him his problems. He wanted Vishal to stand by several supporting actors who are in need of help to run their families.
"The actor was dependent on the money he earned from films and had no proper income for him," said an investigating officer.
