Peddlers caught with 3.5 lakh, dummy pistols

MOHALI: The Mohali police have recovered Rs 3.50 lakh and three dummy pistols with cartridges from three people caught with 55 gram of heroin on Tuesday.
The accused were identified as Navdeep Bedi, a resident of Peer Muchalla, Tarun Goyal, and his wife Sumandeep Goyal of Royale Estate in Zirakpur. Police sources said the accused were arrested during a special naka in Royale Estate of Zirakpur.
ASI Kewal Singh, the investigating officer, said, "We got a tip off from one of our agents that the accused were going to supply heroin and other drugs in various areas of the town, especially Royal Estate. Police sources said the accused were getting drugs from Chandigarh and Panchkula-based dealers.
The accused were charging a minimum of Rs 900 per gram.
The kingpin of the three-member gang was Navdeep Bedi, who was in the business of supplying drugs for past over six years, said sources. Moreover, it was found that most of the accused are students living on rented accommodations in Tricity and its periphery. Besides this, the accused were also charging extra money for home delivery of drugs and used to take benefit of yellow beacon on their car to dodge police post and check nakas. tnn
When car of the accused was stopped by the police, the driver tried to impress the police officer with fake identity that he was a VIP and high-level officer.
However, during the search of the car, 55 gram of heroin was recovered from the pocket of Navdeep and Rs 3.50 lakh from the couple besides three dummy pistils and 2,220 banned capsules of sub-standard quality.
SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, "We are trying to zero in on drug peddlers from other region. Once their kingpin is caught, these small suppliers are going to vanish and we will also get a list of suppliers."
