The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) is set to hand cash bonuses of Rp 1 billion (US$75,750) each to gold medalists Tontowi "Owi" Ahmad and Liliyana "Butet" Natsir following their recent achievements at the Rio Olympics.
he Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) is set to hand cash bonuses of Rp 1 billion (US$75,750) each to gold medalists Tontowi "Owi" Ahmad and Liliyana "Butet" Natsir following their recent achievements at the Rio Olympics.
Team manager Rexy Mainaky will also get a Rp 1 billion bonus and coach Richard Mainaky will receive Rp 500 million. In fact, all PBSI staff, including masseurs, will be rewarded.
All amounts are before tax.
“It is a token of our appreciation for their dedication and hard work,” PBSI chief Gita Wirjawan told a press conference on Wednesday at the PBSI training center in Cipayung.
The Rp 1 billion cash bonus will add to Rp 5 billion in bonuses that the players received from the government.
Gita expected that the athletes’ achievements, along with the promising rewards, would inspire youngsters to follow in the medalists’ footsteps. The former trade minister also hinted that early preparation of aspiring athletes would be the next big thing for the PBSI.
He said the PBSI had incorporated sports science into training programs, through which each athlete’s physical fitness would be closely monitored.
