Engineers India, HDFC Bank, JK Tyre & Industries, Hindustan Oil Exploration Company, MOIL, Tata Chemicals and Torrent Pharmaceuticals were among 80 stocks that hit their fresh 52-week-high on NSE on Wednesday as stock markets closed higher following buying in blue-chip stocks amid mixed global cues. Sensex gained 69.73 points to end at 28,059.94, while Nifty closed 17.70 points higher at 8,650.30 on Wednesday on account of short coverings ahead of F&O expiry on August 25. Nifty touched an intraday high of 8,661 and low of 8,620 pts during the day.
Stock markets are now eyeing the scheduled speech of the US Fed Chair on Friday that may provide a clue on US interest rates. Jayant Manglik, president, retail distribution, Religare Securities Ltd said, “Nifty traded volatile on Wednesday as well and ended almost on flat note. Participants upheld cautious stance throughout the session and restricted their activities mainly in stocks ahead of F&O expiry. While mostly sectoral indices traded in line with benchmark index, pharma, energy and media showed resilience and gained over a per cent each.”
Other stocks that hit their fresh 52-week high on NSE on Wednesday as well were Divi’s Laboratories, Ajanta Pharma, The India Cements, Man Infraconstruction, Mahindra Holidays & Resorts, Tata Investment Corporation, Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals Corporation, Energy Development Company, JB Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals and PNC Infratech.
Seventeen stocks touched their fresh 52-week- low on Wednesday, which included Alstom T&D India, FCS Software Solutions, Larsen & Toubro Infotech, Power Mech Projects, Raj Rayon Industries and Welspun India.
