LHC accepts petition seeking cancellation of MQM’s registration as political party

Lahore High Court (LHC) has accepted the petition made by Advocate Sardar Aftab Virk seeking cancellation of MQM’s registration as a political party on grounds that the party is anti-state, reported Waqt News.

The petition was made after Altaf Hussain made a speech yesterday in which he called Pakistan a cancerous state, a menace for the rest of world and went as far as to chant “Pakistan Murdabad”. He also urged his followers to attack media outlets for their biased view of MQM. Following his speech, MQM activists attacked ARY office in Karachi forcing the Sindh Rangers to step in taking MQM leader Farooq Sattar in custody.

The event caused the sealing of MQM’s ‘nine-zero’ office in Karachi as well its offices in Lahore.

Farooq Sattar, in a press conference later, announced that MQM would sever ties with Altaf Hussain due to his illness and operate within Pakistan.
