joint team of Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police and National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) members and the local community on Tuesday found the body of Private First Class Wahyudi, 26, who went missing during a firefighting mission in Labuhan Tangga Besar village in Rokan Hilir regency, Riau.
Wahyudi, a native of Magetan, Central Java, was first discovered by a joint team from Basarnas and the Dumai Missile Detachment 004 at around 11:30 a.m. Basarnas team commander Hirfan said Wahyudi’s body was found about 250 meters from the location where he went missing. “His body is still intact and recognizable,” he told reporters.
“The fire was extinguished at the site and it remains unclear what caused his death,” he said.
Riau Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head and Riau Land and Forest Fire Emergency Task Force deputy commander Edwar Sanger said Wahyudi’s body would be taken to Dumai.
He expressed surprise that it had taken five days to locate Wahyudi’s body after the mysterious disappearance.
“Moreover, the location was repeatedly combed since the day he disappeared. Many personnel searched for him, but his body has only just been found,” he said.
