Agra, Aug 24: PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik’s victory at the Rio Olympics have made the nation proud and the country is celebrating their success. With the upcoming festival time, the girls have also found place in posters of Mauthura’s Sri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan’s (KJSS) Janamasthmi celebrations. The photographs of the sportswomen along with image of new-born Lord Krishna is seen in the temple town propagating ‘beti bahao, beti pahao’ campaign. The Janamashthmi celebrations are clearly spreading the messaging of saving and educating the girl child in Mathura.

The banners are designed by Sansthan to promote the campaign. Times of India reported that photos of the medalist were used to convey message of saving the girl child in a powerful way. He also said that the message will remove myths and taboos attached which thinks boys as superior to girls. TOI quoted Sansthan Secretary, Kapil Sharma,”The two young girls have saved the country’s honour by winning medals when all others failed. Other celebrations in Mathura as a part of Janamashtmi is a mix of technology and history. The birth of Lord Krishna would be depicted by idol emerging out of electronicallu controlled siver lotus. The concept has been designed by artists from Banaras, Mathura and Rajasthan.

KJSS Member, Gopeshwar Nath Chaturvedi said that this year Lord Krishna would be offered a ‘bhog’ of 4655 kilograms of ‘Laddoo and Mewa pag’ on the day of celebrations. Large TV screens are being set-up around the temple for devotees get a view of the live celebrations from the sanctum sanctorum. While on one side, the the winners are being celebrated, another section of people do not seem to be glad with the victory. Popular critic and write Shobhaa De was the first in the league who said that the games were a mere waste of money and that the country won’t win any medal. She was heavily criticized for her statement.

Malayalam Director Sanal Kumar Sasisharan took to Facebook to say that he wanted to spit on PV Sindhu’s achievement. After he was abused and trolled on the internet for his unnecessary comment, he said that his statement was a part of black humor and was wrong of the silver medalist’s achievement.

Movie director Ram Gopal Varma also faced flak on Twitter after he criticised India for their overwhelming response to Sindhu and Sakshi’s win at Rio Olympics. He said that people were overreacting to winning just one silver.

PV Sindhu became the first Indian shuttler to make it through to the final of an Olympics. She is the youngest Indian to win a medal at the Olympics. She lost to Carolina Marin in women’s singles final. While Sakshi Malik scripted history by becoming the first woman wrestler from India to bag an Olympic medal. (Image Credits- Times of India)
