NASHIK: Citizens can finally look forward to good roads across the city with the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) proposing works worth Rs 82.82 crore for asphalting and resurfacing of roads.
Road works totally worth Rs 190 crore have been proposed, of which Rs 82.82 crore for asphalting and tarring has been put up for approval in the upcoming standing committee meeting.

Many main and ring roads were developed during the Kumbh Mela, but the work on colony roads was excluded and proposed to be carried after the mega religious event.
In the meantime, heavy rainfall exposed innumerable potholes in the colony roads, much to the ire of the citizens. Subsequently, the opposition too took the ruling MNS to task at various meetings on the issue.
The proposal worth Rs 190 crore for executing road works landed in trouble when the corporators approved it in the general body meeting, but left aside another crucial issue of funds for sewage treatment plans. The funds for the work were to the tune of Rs 100 crore and the matter is sub-judice.
"Of the many road works worth Rs 190 crore that the general body has approved, we have put up a proposal of around Rs 80 crore for asphalting and resurfacing of roads. We concentrated on main roads and ring roads during the Kumbh Mela. The present proposal is for colony roads, some main roads and squares in the city," said an NMC official.

The works include resurfacing of tar roads at a cost of Rs 21 crore in east division, Rs 13 crore in west division, Rs 8 crore each in Panchavati, CIDCO and Nashik Road divisions; asphalting and resurfacing of roads in Satpur by spending Rs 8 crore, developing 30m development plan (DP) road from Ashoka Marg (Vijay Mamta theatre) to Wadala Road by spending Rs 9 crore and strengthening and asphalting of road from compost plant to Gaulane in ward no. 52 worth Rs 1 crore.
The other works include widening and asphalting of 30m DP road from Trimuti Chowk to DGP Nagar in ward no. 48 worth Rs 2 crore, Garware Chowk development in ward no. 52 worth Rs 93 lakh, Lekhanagar Chowk development worth Rs 89 lakh, development of entry point of the city at Vilholi at a cost of Rs 2 crore and Rs 1 crore for developing the Mumbai Naka square area to Sandip Hotel.
