BERHAMPUR: Classes for Plus III (first year) in the colleges affiliated to Berhampur University started on Tuesday, after a delay of 12 days. The government had declared to start the classes from August 11 across the state.
The commencement of the teaching in the Berhampur University was delayed due to finalization of syllabuses. The details on the new syllabuses were discussed in the principals' conference held on Monday at the university and the college heads were asked to begin regular classes from Tuesday, said vice- chancellor RP Dash.
He also advised the principals to educate the students about the credit based choice system (CBCS) and the semester system of examinations as they face the system for the first time.
Berhampur University has over 140 affiliated colleges in seven southern districts. The districts are Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkanagiri, Rayagada and Nabarangapur.
The government has decided to introduce the CBCS in all colleges from this year while the autonomous colleges and universities introduced the system last year.
Besides the classroom teaching, the VC advised the principals to educate the students on communication skills to improve their employability. Communication skill is an important tool in the job market. At the same time, he warned the principals that the university authorities would take action against the teachers who deviate from their regular classes.
