Police vehicle attacked in Kannur

The vehicle was carrying two accused in the murder of CPM worker

KANNUR: A police van carrying the accused in Payyannur twin murder cases came under attack near the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Tuesday afternoon. Cases were registered against ten CPM workers, said the police. However, no arrests were made. Two accused in the murder of CPM worker C.V. Dhanaraj - Vyshakh and Manob - and three charged in the killing of BMS leader C.K. Ramachandran - Nandakumar, Rineesh and Prashobh - were brought from Kannur sub-jail to the court after their remand period had ended.

After producing them in the court, the police took them back in the same vehicle, and this was questioned by some CPM workers saying that the accused belonging to opposing parties can not be put together in the same vehicle. When the van proceeded, they attacked it with sticks and stones on the public road near the court. However, after the attack, the police took them back in the same vehicle to the jail.
