Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the Additional Director General of Police, CB-CID, to produce a status report in a sealed cover, on the investigation into the advocates allegedly laying siege to the official residence of the Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul here, over an anticipatory bail issue and creating ruckus on April 2, 2015.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R.Mahadevan gave the directive while passing interim orders on a PIL from advocate Elphant G. Rajendran, which sought a direction to the police to file a status report with the names of the persons who instigated the lawyers to do these illegal acts.
In its order, the bench said government pleader M.K. Subramanian appearing for ADGP stated that the investigation was expected to be completed within two months.
The petitioner appearing in person stated that he had sent a representation dated May 15, 2016 to the Bar Council of India stating that the incident in question was more serious than others, in which suspension order was passed.
The petitioner alleged that no action was taken as some state bar council members were involved. The BCI may inform the status of the representation of the petitioner.
The status report by the investigation officer be produced in a sealed cover. Counsel for the petitioner stated that he has some information about the incident and he will hand it over to the investigation officer, the bench added and posted to October 24, further hearing of the case.
On April 2, 2015, a group of lawyers barged into the official bungalow of CJ Sanjay Kishan Kaul at Greenways Road when he was in Delhi attending a conference of chief justices and chief ministers, and laid siege to it demanding immediate hearing of anticipatory bail for two advocates.
