Deputy Ministers Bulelani Magwanishe and Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams hand over technical equipment to Tsakane Schools, 26 Aug

Deputy Ministers Magwanishe and Ndabeni-Abrahams switches-on Telematics System and handover technical equipment to Tsakane’s Schools

In a bid to strengthen leaner performance at schools in Ekurhuleni, the Deputy Ministers of Public Enterprises and Communications, Mr Bulelani Magwanise and Ms Stella Ndabeni- Abrahams, will officially launch a telematics system and handover technical equipment and machinery to two local schools in Tsakane. The event will take place on Friday (26 August 2016).

The Deputy Ministers will be joined by the Gauteng Education MEC, Mr Panyaza Lesufi, who is excited about the installation of telematics systems as it complements the Provincial Department’s Digital Classroom project.

The telematics system is an interactive digital learning platform, where Grade 8-12 learners at Tsakane Secondary School will sit for Maths and science tutorials and revisions through a virtual classroom (Telematics) on weekdays.

The learners will be taught by tutors from the University of Stellenbosch. The learning support system enables learners to ask questions and interact with the tutors in real time through the video feedback system. The project is in partnership with the Department of Basic Education and the University of Stellenbosch.

The Deputy Ministers and MEC will then proceed to the Mamellong Technical School to handover technical equipment and machinery. The equipment will include various technical workspaces such as an electrical and welding machines and a woodwork working space courtesy of SAFCOL where learners will be taught furniture manufacturing skills.

The handover of the machinery is to ensure that Mamellong becomes a real technical school, with workshops to train leaners in the different technical and mechanical engineering fields.

In addition, State Owned Companies (SOCs) will exhibit at the Mamellong Technical School to showcase career and skills development opportunities available to learners at SOCs. The learners will also receive math dictionaries and sanitary packs.

The delivery launch of the Telematics system at Tsakane Secondary is in remembrance of its former pupil, anti-apartheid activist, Mzwakhe Ngomane. The Mzwakhe Ngomane Legacy Trust is an advocacy trust meant to encourage learners around the East Rand to focus on the education. Ngomane is a former teacher and anti-apartheid activist from Tsakane.

Later in the evening, a Business Engagement will follow where the Deputy Minister Magwanishe will deliver a keynote address and a panel will tackle issues facing black entrepreneurs in the area.
