'NCIS: New Orleans' Season 3 Spoilers and Updates: New Special Agent Investigates Pride's Team After the Brody Fiasco

Sebastian's overprotective mother will be introduced in the series.

"NCIS: New Orleans" Season 3 will return on September 20. And this early, it is safe to say that fans can expect big changes for the series, if latest spoilers and updates are to be believed.

Sebastian's overprotective mother

For this season of "NCIS: New Orleans", a major change in the form of a cast shake-up will take place. First to be introduced very early in the season is Sebastian Lund's mother. According to reports, Wendie Malick will be playing Sylvia Lund, the loving but overprotective mother of the agency's resident forensic scientist, Sebastian (Rob Kerkovich).

Sylvia will treat Sebastian like he is still a young boy needing her special care and attention. Fans should anticipate embarrassing moments when the doting Mrs. Lund decides to show up in her nerdy son's workplace.

Goodbye, Agent Brody

It has been reported in July that Zoe McLellan's character, Agent Meredith "Merry" Brody, will not be coming back for "NCIS: New Orleans" Season 3. The character has been written off for "creative reasons". McLellan was reportedly told of the development even before production for the upcoming season started.

Agent Brody made some poor choices last season which has put the whole team of Agent Pride in question and has left a black mark on her otherwise sterling career. She got involved with a Homeland Security Agent named John Russo, who turned out to be not only an anti-military fanatic, but a double agent as well.

First seen in two episodes of the original NCIS series in 2014, Meredith Brody's character is an original member of "NCIS: New Orleans". According to McLellan, she immediately felt the role was for her when she was first asked to audition for it. McLellan's departure from the series opens a perfect opportunity for the introduction of a new character.

A new Special Agent

By the "NCIS: New Orleans" Season 2 finale, Agent Pride and his whole team have been put on administrative leave following Agent Brody's involvement with Russo. This prompted the bosses to call on a Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent to monitor the team's operation in the new season.

Vanessa Ferlito, formerly from "Graceland", was tapped to play the Special Agent. The character is said to be a by the book bureaucrat, who also happens to be sexy, tough, and acerbic. Since she will be snooping on Pride's team, she will be at odds with the NCIS team.

Ferlito's other previous works include "CSI: NY" and the ill-fated "Nancy Drew" pilot. She was also seen in "The Sopranos" and "24".
