Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar is in a fresh round of controversy after a video going viral online gives the impression that he's got his history lessons all wrong.

While paying homage to freedom fighters, Javadekar said, "We salute our freedom fighters. So many bravehearts - Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Pandit Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, all who were hanged, revolutionary Savarkarji and all other great fighters."

The verdict on what he meant by the statement is dividing social media. While some people are accusing Javadekar of muddling up his history by saying Bose and Nehru were hanged, there are others who are treating it as a case of the missing comma.

This is not the first time that BJP leaders have mixed up their histories and got their facts wrong. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Lok Sabha election campaign had said that Chandragupta Maurya was from Gupta dynasty. He also said that Alexander's army conquered the entire world, but was defeated by the Biharis. In another incident, BJP president Amit Shah had said that the founder of the Ahom Kingdom had defeated Mughals 17 times, even though the Mughal dynasty was founded much later, in fact, 300 years later.

In Javadekar's defense, however, it could just be that he meant to refer to all those who were hanged like Bhagat Singh and Rajguru. A comment as ignorant is hard to expect from a man as learned as Javadekar.
