Didier Drogba has dismissed rumours he is in Birmingham ahead of a shock move to Aston Villa.

Villa chairman Tony Xia sparked the speculation on social media by claiming the club were working to bring in a top-class striker.

That led to reports that Drogba was in Birmingham for talks.

Drogba worked under current Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo at Chelsea, winning the Champions League and FA Cup in 2012.

But Drogba took to social media himself to deny the rumours, insisting he was still very much in Canada with his MLS side Montreal Impact.

He tweeted: "Just come out of training at @impactmontreal & a million messages & trending on Twitter saying I was in Birmingham today."

Xia later laughed off the rumours himself, tweeting: "Come on. It's not the China Villa club (maybe future will.)."
