The Telangana Government on Monday issued the draft notification on formation of 17 new districts with a 30-day deadline for the public to file objections and suggestions.
Nine orders
The notification also contained 15 new divisions and 46 mandals which are proposed to take birth as a result of the reorganisation of the existing 10 districts.
Barring Hyderabad, the contours of all the remaining nine districts will undergo change.
There is no change in Hyderabad in its present form as a revenue district. The government, therefore, issued a set of nine orders on Monday, invoking provisions of the Telangana Districts (Formation) Act, 1974, ( Telangana has adopted all the legislations of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh) together with separate notifications for each of the present districts to complete the formality.
The proposals envisaged breaking up Ranga Reddy into three districts – Ranga Reddy comprising Vikarabad and Chevella revenue divisions, Malkajgiri with Dundigal, Uppal and Shamirpet as some of its mandals and Shamshabad with adjoining areas of Mahbubnagar district.
Stiff opposition
Despite stiff opposition, the government went ahead with formation of Peddapalli district in Karimnagar and Hanamkonda in Warangal district. Also, 14 mandals of Karimnagar district were transferred to Bhoopalpally, Siddipet and Hanamkonda districts. Interestingly, Illanthakunta mandal in Karimnagar has been distributed between Siddipet and Hanamkonda and given two distinct names “Ellanthakunta” and “Illandakunta” respectively.
Nirmal which surprisingly emerged as a new district takes with it 13 of the present 52 mandals in Adilabad district.
The government has carved out Wanaparthy in Mahbubnagar with the highest number of 32 mandals, including two new ones. Nalgonda with 31 mandals is the second biggest in the category.
The present Jangaon division has been distributed between Hanamkonda, Yadadri and Siddipet districts.
