Biff turns to wood to reignite career

Graeme Smith set the world alight with his bat as captain of the Proteas - now he is to start braai fires from here to London. The former cricketer has entered the firewood and charcoal business. He launched Biff's Big Six in London this month with six containers of South African wood and will launch the business in South Africa soon.Biff is Smith's nickname. The batsman took the world by storm during his illustrious career and showed leadership as Proteas captain when he took the reins at only 22.Now he's back in England, where he scored his double centuries in 2003, hoping to get the English to haul out their braai stands and score himself some British pounds. The business's website reads: "We source charcoal from South Africa from locally owned business who pre-knock in the wood [pre-burn it], using only black wattle."Being an invasive alien species, the wood itself is a bit of a googly because it takes water from our indigenous plants, so we do our bit by bowling it out - howzat for social responsibility?"We love willows (for the shade they provide but also when they are turned into great bats), we also love black wattle, sickle bush and black thorn - especially when they are turned into Ashes.
