Education aid given to 1,000 students

Sri Narayani Peedam of Thirumalaikodi in Vellore has provided education assistance to the tune of Rs.1.25 crore to 1,000 students pursuing professional courses.

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot distributed the cheques for the students at a function in Thirumalaikodi here on Sunday. The Peedam offers assistance to students pursuing M.B.B.S. and B.E. under its programme called Vidya Nethram.

According to Peedam sources, the assistance was for the current academic year.

To receive assistance for the consecutive years, the students need to apply afresh.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Gehlot praised the programme devised to assist poor students and said that his ministry gave assistance to hearing impaired persons to undergo corrective surgery.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon. Radhakrishnan and Director of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Satellite Centre Mayilsamy Annadurai participated in the function.
