GCZMA to raze Anjuna night club

NGT Stays Demolitions In CRZ Till Further Orders
GCZMA to raze Anjuna night club
PANAJI: Goa coastal zone management authority (GCZMA) has issued an order of demolition to two illegal structures, restaurant and night club, and a retaining wall built on Anjuna beach in blatant violation of coastal regulations zone (CRZ) 2011.
While the entire property is located in a no-development zone (NDZ), a massive concrete sea wall has been allegedly built along the high tide line (HTL) within the surf zone.
A few steps have been also erected from the central part leading to the beach. The first structure is located along the HTL while the other one with a tiled roof has been built about 20m behind.
Social activist, Kashinath Shetye had filed a complaint before GCZMA and also national green tribunal (NGT), alleging that one Vadin Puzyrev and two others had built the structures for a restaurant and night club in land under Survey no 128/38, 39, and 40 of Anjuna. NGT had disposed of Shetye’s complaint in an order dated March 18, 2016, with a direction that GCZMA should hear the parties to allow them an opportunity to produce documents explaining their case and dispose off the complaint within a period of four months.
After a meeting on July 6, 2016, GCZMA had decided to conduct inspection through its expert members, Ragunath Dhume and Antonio Mascarenhas on July 15, 2016.
The site inspection report confirmed the gross violations, and that the structures and the wall have been built without approvals from competent authorities. The property apparently belonged to a Russian national, who has expired subsequently, and two others. But it appears that the property is now sold/ acquired by a third party who presented himself at the site, the report stated.
The expert members urged GCZMA lawyers to verify ownership documents. While issuing demolition orders, GCZMA also sought restoration of the land to its original state.
But persons with stakes in the property have recently approached NGT and the demolition has been stayed till further orders.
