Some loved Raman Raghav 2.0, some didn't: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Raman Raghav 2.0 was based on the story of real-life psycho killer Raman, who committed a spate of murders in the mid-1960s.

Mumbai: Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been on a career high ever since Manjhi released. He was last seen in director Anurag Kashyap’s psychological thriller Raman Raghav 2.0, in which his intense performance was applauded.

His co-star Vicky Kaushal too was noticed for his act in the film. However, the film was panned by all and sundry, and the movie all but sank without a trace at the box office.

Raman Raghav 2.0 was based on the story of real-life psycho killer Raman, who committed a spate of murders in the mid-1960s. While Anurag is known for making unconventional cinema, the movie seemed to have tested the audience’s patience a tad too much. Nawazuddin, who is currently on a promotional spree for his next, Freaky Ali, spoke up about Raman Raghav 2.0’s failure while talking to us.

“I met some people who loved the film and some who didn’t like it at all,” says Nawaz patiently.

“I agree the film got mixed reviews but it was made in Anurag Kashyap’s style. I tried something different in the film.”

He also points at the fact that the producers made their money back from the film, so monetarily the film did fine. “The film was made in '3.5 crores and it earned approximately Rs 11 crores. So, the producers got their money back and it was declared a hit from their end.”
