Salim Khan accepted land status, others didn’t: State
NAVI MUMBAI: The state revenue and forest department has stated that the case of celebrity Salim Khan applying to regularize his 1.28 hectares Panvel-based property under the governing forest laws is different from the 57 other writ petitions filed in the high court. The other 57 petition claim that these properties are ‘not on forest land’, while the legal status of Khan’s property will remain as forest land.

Salim Khan has sought for regularization of the property already built on the forest land under the provisions of Maharashtra Private Forest (Acquisition) Act, 1975, by “submitting a diversion proposal for use of non-forest purpose’’ on the land area, the statement said.
It means Khan has admitted that the land in Panvel is a restored private forest land. He is now seeking permission for non-forest use, as per the prevailing laws. The state also said Khan is willing to pay compensation and bear the cost of afforestation in another equivalent land area.
Environmentalist Debi Goenka asserted: “It is not fair to simply pay cash compensation and try to regularize forest land. Government must fight to take back all forest lands and save our precious environment. The other petitions are claiming ‘non-forest’ status for their land so the legal fight continues.
