Bareilly: Around 300 agitated candidates blocked the NH-74 in Nawabganj after they discovered that the wrong centre had been mentioned on their admit cards for the examination for the post of amin that was to be held on Monday morning.
According to authorities, the mix-up happened as the exam was to be actually held at a school with the same name in Bareilly city.

On Monday morning, the candidates were stumped when they found out that there was no arrangements for holding the exam at the Gulab Rao Memorial Higher Secondary School in Nawabganj, the exam centre mentioned on their admit cards. Many of the students had come from far-off places like Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Pilibhit and Puranpur.
“We came as early as 8am only to find that no preparations had been made at the centre to conduct the exam. Most of us were clueless as to what to do next and where to lodge a complaint regarding this,” Nagendra Singh, who had come all the way from Ghaziabad, said.
A ruckus ensued after the aggrieved candidates reached sub-divisional magistrate Archana Dwivedi’s residence in Nawabganj to inform her of the situation. Traffic was held up on the highway, which runs nearby, as more than 300 youths gathered outside the SDM’s house. They also got into an argument with cops who reached the spot to disperse the crowd and clear the highway.
“Traffic was held up as the SDM’s residence is close to the highway and over 300 people had gathered. We tried to pacify the aggrieved candidates and subsequently got them to clear the road,” Nawabganj station house officer Rajeev Kumar Sharma said.
Explaining the reason behind the mix-up, SDM Dwivedi said, “There is a school with the same name in Bareilly city where the exam was to be held. However, due to some error, the admit card carries the address of the school in Nawabganj.”
Dwivedi said the authorities collected the admit cards of the youths who had come for the exam. They were told that the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission, which conducts the exam, will subsequently hold a separate test for them.
