Goods train derails in Chhattisgarh as Maoists remove track

Raipur, Aug 21 (UNI) The Vishakhapatnam-Kirandul goods train derailed and traffic remained disrupted for the past 24 hours after Maoists removed 100 m of track between Kamalur and Bhanshi stations in Dantewada district.
“Providentially, there was no injury. Two locomotives and 17 empty wagons of the train – used to transport iron ore from the National Mineral Development Corporation’s mines near Kirandul to Vishakhapatnam – jumped the track yesterday afternoon in the vicinity of Pujaripara approximately 4 km from Bhanshi. Repair is underway amid tight bandobast and traffic is likely to be restored by evening,” Superintendent of Police Kamal Lochan Kashyap said.
This is the second such derailment in the district in the recent past. On August 11, four ore-laden wagons jumped track near Kaklur after ultras removed fishplates.
