Bhopal: The southern group of temples in Khajuraho will not be accessible to tourists after a major portion of a stop dam and road was washed away following heavy rain at the international tourist destination on Saturday. The incident took place after flooding in Khudar river.
This group of temples comprises Dulhadev temple, Chaturbhuj and Bijamandir.
Besides, dozens of villages are also connected by the road on a stop dam on the river.
Sources said after heavy rain last month, the sluice gates of Khudar stop dam were not opened and the fresh spell on rain led to brimming of the stop dam and resulted in a breach in its concrete wall. It was later repaired but a portion of the road was still washed away and damaged.
