RIO DE JANEIRO: Late on Friday night, after the euphoria over Sindhu's silver had settled down, a small section of Indian media was called by Narsingh Yadav and his support staff for an interaction.
He had been asked to vacate the Village in the morning and had shifted to an apartment in the Barra area, just behind the Barra shopping complex.
The ban has come as a huge blow, and Narsingh said he wanted justice.
"There should be CBI inquiry into this. By plotting to kill my career and get me humiliated, they have betrayed the nation," Narsingh said. "I was confident that I would be cleared. My witness, who had seen the boy spike my food, deposed before the judge. So why this ban? The draw was made, I had also done my weigh-in and I was all set for the bout. I was shocked when I heard I had been banned for four years."
He added: "I have not taken any substance, I maintain that I have been set up. I have also heard someone from India had mailed to WADA that the NADA's report was issued under political pressure that it should be conducted again. There is someone in India who wants to make me suffer. That's why I am saying there should be a high-level inquiry or a CBI inquiry." Narsingh said that probe could help lift the ban on him. "Then I can start competing again."
Narsingh said that after having worked so hard for a medal he was now shattered. "I had beaten the two wrestlers who won the bronze in the 74kg category in Rio. I had beaten the wrestler from Turkey in the second round of the World Championships in Las Vegas where I also won the quota."
If there was witness account then what went against him in CAS? "The boy who had spiked my food, his name and address was given, but Haryana police is yet to find him. If the boy had been arrested I wouldn't be sitting here. The boys in the mess had seen him, my cook had seen him. CAS said if the food had been spiked why wasn't the boy arrested. If the boy had been arrested the hearing could have gone in my favour."
So what now Narsingh?
"Government should thoroughly investigate this matter, if they find my guilty they should punish me. There are big names involved in the sabotage... I have age on my side, if the ban is lifted I can play in Tokyo 2020. It's my dream to win an Olympics medal, I am a fighter I would fight my way back." He then invited the journalists to have dinner with him. "I have not mixed anything in it," he said.
