VADODARA: With arrest of six more persons, the Godhra police is assured of involvement of the cattle theft gang in more such offences. The six more were arrested for stealing a cow in a car that was recorded on CCTV cameras.
While the Godhra town police that is probing the case has evidence regarding only one case so far, it sought a remand of the six accused arrested on Friday to find out if they were involved in more such cases in and around Godhra.
The accused are remanded to police custody till Monday.
Cops have also not been able to locate the cow that was stolen by the accused on August 14. Sources said that the accused were stating that they had released the cow.
The police, however, is not buying the story yet. The police also did not rule out the possibility of the cow being sold off or sent to an abattoir.
The Godhra police had earlier arrested Imran Rasulbhai, a resident of Mohammadi Mohalla in Godhra, regarding the offence. The car used for the theft was also traced by the police and impounded. The investigations revealed the names of six more accused.
The police had swung into action only after the CCTV footage of the theft was circulated widely. Some cow vigilantes had also approached senior police officials and shared the footage with them demanding immediate action.
