MAPUSA: The body of Sevrine Dumanf Figere, the 45-year-old French woman who allegedly committed suicide in Goa last month after killing her adopted, minor daughter, was cremated on Saturday.
Anjuna police said a postmortem analysis was conducted by doctors at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) after a no objection certificate was obtained from the French embassy. The cause of death was cited to be excessive bleeding due to injuries.
Sevrine was accused of smothering her adopted, seven-year-old daughter, Deepa Ramagosamia native of Karnataka before ending her own life.
Her husband, Martin Figere, who was expected in India following the deaths, hasn’t been able to travel as he is still ill and undergoing treatment in France. He, however, consented to Sevrine’s body being cremated in Goa and conveyed that he would visit the state once he is declared medically fit.
Sevrine had been residing at a rented house in Anjuna. Her husband had returned to France two months ago, leaving her behind. It was he who alerted a friend in Goa when his wife failed to answer or return his calls.
